iPhone 15 is newly released! Recap of Apple press conference highlights

Apple's special event for fall 2023 is over. New products such as the new iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 were introduced at this event. We will then present you with a summary of the highlights from the entire press conference.

iPhone series 15

The focus of the conference was undoubtedly the new iPhone generation. Like last year, Apple has lined up four members:

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max.

It should be noted that this year's top version is still called "Pro Max" and not "Ultra" as rumored.

1. iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Plus

Although Apple introduced the Plus model in the iPhone 14 series last year, it failed to capitalize on the appeal of the large screen.

And even the standard version, which is usually the most popular, has been criticized by the public for its limited configuration improvements.

On the other hand, there are at least some notable changes between the iPhone 15 Standard and Plus versions.

The most representative upgrades include two points:

First, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature Smart Island , where users can enjoy a new interactive experience.

At the same time, this also marks the end of the mission of pop display in the main generation of the iPhone.

Second, the long-awaited USB-C interface finally appears on iPhone for the first time, supporting charging, data transfer, and audio and video design.

This also means the end of the era of the Lightning interface for the iPhone.

In addition, the AirPods Pro and EarPods have also switched to the USB-C interface.

As for the other aspects, there are also some changes:

Both models feature a 6.1/6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a maximum outdoor brightness of 2,000 nits - twice that of the iPhone 14 - and support Dolby Vision at 1,600 nits.

It is worth mentioning that the rectangular frame has been replaced with a curved edge, which will alleviate the problem of hand gripping to some extent.

In terms of color matching, there are five colors: pink, yellow, green, blue and black. Starlight, the color preferred by countless consumers, is not included this time.

As for the know-how, the standard version also uses matte frosted glass, but the rear camera area is made of glossy glass.

In terms of performance, it is equipped with the same A16 bionic chip as the iPhone 14 Pro, with a number of 16 billion transistors and 6 CPU cores, of which 2 are high-performance cores and 4 are efficiency cores.

In terms of imaging, the rear main camera has been upgraded to a 48-megapixel sensor, and the main camera's image crop can reach twice the lossless crop zoom.

When taking photos, the camera can automatically detect depth of field when it detects a person, supports adjusting aperture effects and focus points after shooting, and Night Shot mode has also been improved, with new HDR, richer colors and more obvious, darker light.

As for the ultra-wide-angle camera, it's still the familiar 12-megapixel camera, capable of 2x zoom and recording 4K videos.

One thing to note is that the refresh rate of the iPhone 15/Plus is still frozen at 60Hz.

For the price of :

The iPhone 15 starts at $799 / €949 and the iPhone 15 Plus at $899 / €1,099 , both with 128GB of storage. Pre-orders begin on September 15th (this Friday) and devices will be released on September 22nd. The handsets will be offered in pink, yellow, green, blue and black.

Also: Apple's official website has released a "USB-C to Lightning Adapter" that can be used with old Lightning data cables to give them a second life.

2. iPhone 15 Pro/iPhone 15 Pro Max
Similar to last year's strategy for the iPhone 14 series, Apple is also very generous with the Pro/Pro Max.

Even the Pro Max version has received exclusive configuration upgrades.

As for the changes in the iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max, they are easier to see with the naked eye than in the standard version:

First of all, the iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max uses a new titanium alloy body with a grade 5 titanium frame.

Thanks to the brushed texture technology, the pulling resistance effect is better and the frame is more comfortable. It is available in four colors: titanium black, titanium white, titanium blue and titanium in original color.

Apple claims the new titanium design is the highest quality material used in an iPhone case, making it stronger, more durable and lighter. The whole thing is 19 grams lighter, making it the lightest Pro ever developed.

While the screen size is still 6.1/6.7 inches, with the narrowest bezel ever, the body size has been reduced.

Second, the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max overrides the classic mute switch and replaces it with the action button.

A long press on the new action button lets you toggle between ringing and silence, and the linear Taptic Engine provides simulated button feedback and haptic feedback to indicate status changes.

In addition, the action button supports personalization and users can switch between photographic shutter, auxiliary functions and other operations.

Third, the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max is equipped with the new A17 Pro chip, which is not only the first chip with the Pro suffix in the A series, but also the industry's first 3nm chip.

The A17 Pro has 19 billion transistors and is equipped with a six-core processor with a performance increase of up to 10%. The NPU performance is twice that of the A16 and the efficiency is four times that of the A16.

It has a 16-core neural engine and its computing power has been increased from 17TOPS to 35TOPS. It can process up to 35 trillion operations per second, accelerate machine learning, support more precise auto-correction or extract themes from images and has its own ProRes. Pro displays the engine and the engine of the AV1 decoder.

The graphics processor uses a new architectural design and is also six-core, with maximum performance increased by up to 20%. Apple calls it a pro-grade GPU, introduces a shader architecture, and adds hardware-level support for ray tracing.

It's worth mentioning that the A17 Pro's performance can also run many PC-level games.

A newly added USB 3 module supports the USB 3 specification for the first time with a transfer speed of up to 10 Gbps, making it up to 20 times faster than the standard USB 2 version of the iPhone 15.

Finally, when it comes to imaging, the iPhone 15 Pro has a more advanced 48MP main camera with a nano-coating to eliminate reflections.

At the same time, a 3x telephoto lens with 12 megapixels has been improved, which is complemented by an ultra-wide-angle lens with 12 megapixels.

The Pro Max exclusively includes a 12-megapixel 5x telephoto lens, a periscope lens with a reflective quadruple prism structure, and a 25% larger sensor size than the previous generation.

And the ultra-wide-angle lens features a new anti-reflective coating that allows shooting at seven focal lengths: macro, 13, 24, 28, 35, 48 and 120mm.

In addition, it also supports rotating spatial videos that can later be viewed on Apple Vision Pro.
